Head of HR for a large emergency service – Essex County Fire and Rescue Service
An initial contract for three months. The organisation was in crisis; the HR team had 80% turnover and the transactional fundamentals were not being carried out successfully or effectively.
The remit was to look after the HR Function for the Service and to be part of the Senior Leadership Team, providing strategic and operational advice and guidance at all levels. In a time of change and after a difficult audit, the organisation had been identified as having a huge cultural journey to undertake.
The role was to stabilise the team, provide a sense of direction, re-evaluate the service provision from HR and realign this to the strategic direction of the organisation. It was also to show leadership and provide the technical expertise to lead a large team to delivery.
The focus was to change from being internally focused to focusing on the needs of the organisation. It was also to build up confidence and trust across the service for and with the HR team, and enable a fresh approach to be accepted.
